BelOMO (aka BelOMA…the Belarusian Optical Mechanical Association) makes what we believe is the best portable 10x entry-level loupe in the business. Some may beg to differ at the “entry-level” term for this loupe at about $30 retail, but there is no reason to purchase a loupe of lesser quality (and lower price) than the BelOMO. This is really the best loupe you can buy at this price point.
The BelOMO loupe has a sizable 17mm field of view, and 21mm lens diameter, with three achromatic, color correction, antireflection lenses bonded together (thus the “triplet”) to create a clear image. Metal housing assembled with screws in no way resembles the construction of the least expensive loupes, and it isn’t worth a comparison. There is no hole to attach a lanyard, but keeping in a pocket works just fine for us.
BelOMO also makes a variety of other loupe magnifications, including 7x, 8x and a number higher than 10x as well. If you are looking for higher magnification than the more wearable 4-6x range in a portable loupe, the 10x makes a good choice (we would likely opt for two loupes: one in the 4-6x range, and one at 10x, or else a combined loupe such as the Zeiss Optics D36).
