First called out by community member LouS on omegaforums is the curious case of the Zenith A386 pieces with case numbers ending in x460.
Looking closely at these x460, and there are well over a dozen seen, we see a number of items that are not consistent with other A386s.
Some of the factors lead me to believe these are forgeries:
– Case numbers all ending in x460, while the initial 3 numbers vary
– Case number etching deeper and not consistent with A386s from any other batch
– Case appearance, particularly at outside of lugs
– Inconsistent movement text
– Incorrect rotor etching
– Service dials and most often, tachy rings
– Newer main hour, minute and chrono seconds hands
– Often pointed/service register hands
– Later inverted star/square logo on crown
Some posit that these were made by Zenith of leftover parts, but in my mind there are just too many pieces that differ from the accepted production matches to make it believable that these watches were produced by Zenith.
